Alexander
Radtke
Through painting, installation, and mixed media, I explore how ordinary materials can shift their role and reveal new meanings. Rather than offering answers, my work invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and question what they thought they already knew.
Where does meaning begin?
Meaning rarely begins with an image. It begins with attention - to a surface, a gesture, a fragment, or a material that carries traces of time. My practice starts by observing these quiet moments before they become visible.

Attention
Art, for me, is a space where we stop performing. It is where the subconscious speaks through images, and emotion becomes more important than logic.

I paint not because I can, but because I cannot do otherwise. Every work begins with an impulse - an emotion, a thought, or an image that cannot be expressed in words.

Abstract Expressionism remains the foundation of my practice, while each idea naturally finds the form it needs - whether as a painting, an object, or an installation.

I am not interested in fixed meanings or definitive interpretations. Every artwork remains open to the viewer's own perception.

Rather than offering answers, I hope each work leaves enough space for viewers to discover their own meanings.

Painting is not a conclusion. It is a beginning.

Representation
Alexander Radtke (b. 1989) is a Cyprus-based contemporary artist working primarily in Abstract Expressionism. Rather than following a traditional academic path, he developed an independent artistic practice shaped by experimentation, philosophical inquiry, and years of continuous exploration.
His artistic journey began with a series of international exhibitions in 2013 and continued through public art projects in Berlin, an artist residency, and international gallery representation. Throughout these experiences, his work gradually shifted away from representation toward a more intuitive visual language, where emotion, perception, and subconscious experience became central to the act of painting.
In 2023, a prolonged creative pause became a turning point rather than an interruption. It led him to question his own artistic language and redefine the role of painting within his practice, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
Today, Radtke's work remains rooted in Abstract Expressionism while naturally expanding into installation and object-based forms whenever an idea extends beyond the canvas. His practice continues to explore perception, imagination, and the open relationship between artwork and viewer, where meaning is not fixed but discovered through individual experience.
